Developing Projects

Our projects come straight from people like you! People who care about South Buffalo, who want to work together and have a positive impact on our neighborhood.

You can see the problems, now it’s time to do something about it!

Check out the projects below. If you have another idea, let us know.

Neighborhood Promotion Packet, for Homebuyers.

Let’s face it, people who don’t live here, don’t know much about us. But we can change that. Let’s put the best info together, and get it in the hands of potential home buyers. I’m talking about school optons, parks, festivals, restaurants, and more.

We need help compiling the information, and we need people to go meet with Realtors and let them know what South Buffalo has to offer.

If you’ve recently bought a house in South Buffalo, maybe you noticed that most Realtors aren’t familiar with the area. Did they tell you about the Catholic schools? the parks? the beach? new businesses? little league? Festivals? volunteer groups like South Buffalo Alive, Americorps and the South Buffalo CREW? Let’s get the information out there.

Spring Cleanups

When the snowbanks melt in the Spring they leave behind a filthy mess of trash. We want to get the neighborhood off to a good start in the Spring with some neighborhood cleanups. Please consider organizing a cleanup in your area. We have the tools and a network of people to help make a difference. We’ve had a lot of successful cleanups over the past few years but we need leaders like you to help decide on locations and get volunteers from the area.

It’s a fun experience. We’ll provide a pizza party afterward too. All ages are welcome.

We clean up parks, streets, gardens, abandoned lots, and whatever needs to be done. We have access to tools, garbage bags, and other resources to help us get the job done. It makes a big difference.

We really need more people to organize volunteers, hang up fliers, make phone calls, and do the behind the scenes work. We’re currently deciding on cleanup targets. Let us know if you are interested!

Seneca Street Garden

We’ve created a Community Garden near the corner of Seneca and Cazenovia streets, between M&T Bank and the SB Chamber office. Visit our Garden Page for pictures and updates.  In 2010, the building at 2195 Seneca Street was demolished, but this area has seen a lot of improvements over the past few years, and now we’ve created a Community Garden in this empty lot.

We need people to help plant and maintain the garden. Weeding and Watering are always needed, please contact us to get involved. Let us know if you are interested!

Store Window Art Project

This project brightens up storefront windows and improves the look of our Business strips. Our first art display was held in July 2011, you can read a little more about it here. We partner with qualified businesses and building owners to add Photos and Artwork to their windows. People submit artwork for the contest, and it will be on display for everyone to see! We hope to work with local high school students, and other crafty people.

The first step is to find eligible storefronts that want to help. Those storefronts will have to demonstrate that they can display the artwork with dignity. We hope the buildings will be clean and presentable when visitors come by to enjoy the artwork. This is free advertising for the businesses, new customers will stop by just to see the art. Neighboring buildings should clean up and get involved too.

This is an ongoing project, let us know  if you’d like to join the committee or if you have a building or area in mind.  Let us know if you are interested!
